Ken Lay - Enron Corporation
Kenneth Lee "Ken" Lay (April 15, 1942 – July 5, 2006) was best known for his role in the widely reported corruption scandal that led to the downfall of Enron. Lay and Enron became synonymous with accounting fraud and corporate abuse when the scandal broke in 2001. Lay was the CEO and chairman of Enron from 1985 until his resignation on January 23, 2002, except for a few months in 2000 when he was chairman and Jeffrey Skilling was CEO. On July 7, 2004, Lay was indicted on 11 counts of securities fraud and related charges. On January 31, 2006, following four and a half years of preparation by government prosecutors, their trial began. Lay was found guilty on May 25, 2006, of 10 counts against him. Because each count carried a maximum 5- to 10-year sentence, experts said Lay could have faced 20 to 30 years in prison. However, he died while vacationing in Snowmass, Colorado on July 5, 2006, about three and a half months before his scheduled sentencing. Preliminary autopsy reports state that he died of a heart attack. There have been conspiracy theories surrounding his death. John Delorean
John Zachary DeLorean (January 6, 1925 – March 19, 2005) was an engineer and executive in the U.S. auto industry and founder of the DeLorean Motor Company. He was most well known for developing the Pontiac GTO muscle car, the Pontiac Firebird, Pontiac Grand Prix, and the DeLorean DMC-12 sports car, which was later featured in the movie Back to the Future, and for his high profile 1982 arrest on charges of drug trafficking. The drug trafficking was an attempt to raise funds for his struggling company, which declared bankruptcy that same year. He successfully defended himself against the drug trafficking charges, showing that his alleged involvement was a result of entrapment by federal agents. DeLorean died at Overlook Hospital in Summit, New Jersey from a stroke, on March 19, 2005 at age 80. He was a resident of Bedminster Township, New Jersey.
Nick Leeson
Nicholas "Nick" Leeson (born February 25, 1967) is a former derivatives broker whose fraudulent, unauthorized speculative trading caused the collapse of Barings Bank, the United Kingdom's oldest investment bank, for which he was sent to prison. Since leaving prison in 1999 he has become the CEO of Irish football club Galway United and an after-dinner speaker.
